Shepherd's Pie Recipe (British Traditional Dish)
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups mixed frozen vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground lamb or beef until cooked through.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the mixed frozen vegetables, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir everything together and cook for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- Spread the meat mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Spread the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture, using a spatula to smooth it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
- Bake the shepherd's pie for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the shepherd's pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
